History
“From a garage prayer meeting in 1961 to a thriving church community today, we exist to be the very presence of Jesus in Carmichael and beyond.”
Our history
Christ Community began as a people—men and women gathered in Carmichael in 1961, hungry to know Jesus Christ and to see lives transformed by His gospel. From the very beginning, God has been at work drawing people to Himself, forming a community marked by worship, grace, and a deepening commitment to follow Christ together.
In 1962, this growing community formally became a congregation in the Reformed Church in America, united around a shared mission that continues to define us today: to make fully committed followers of Jesus Christ. That mission has always shaped how we live—seeking not only to disciple those already gathered, but to welcome and bless those who have not yet come to know Christ.
As the gospel took root in more lives, the church family grew—people coming to faith, being discipled, raising families in Christ, and stepping into lives of service and leadership. Through every season, the story of Christ Community has been the story of God changing lives and sending His people out into the community to reflect His love in Carmichael and beyond.
In 2022, Christ Community joined the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. This step reflected our ongoing desire to be a people shaped by Scripture, grounded in the gospel, and committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Today, Christ Community remains what it has always been—a people being transformed by God's grace, growing together in Christ, and living on mission to make fully committed followers of Jesus Christ."
