Ruling Elder and Deacon Nomination.
CHRIST COMMUNITY CHURCH
Ruling Elder and Deacon Nomination Form
The Ruling Elders and Deacons are vital and responsible positions within our congregation. It is important to prayerfully consider nominating those members who will serve the overall ministry of this church with leadership, commitment, diligence, and responsibility. Be mindful of the spiritual qualities listed below when nominating individuals to these positions
Members of Christ Community Church have the opportunity and privilege to recommend other members from our congregation to serve as Ruling Elders and Deacons.
Ruling Elders serve with the Senior Pastor on the Session. Together they are responsible for the spiritual oversight of the congregation. They do this by overseeing the preaching of the Word, administering the Sacraments, praying for the church, and administering church discipline when necessary.
Deacons serve on the Deacon Board. Together they encourage the congregation in the stewardship of our time, talents, and resources. Also, the Deacons support our Congregational Care ministries and provide outreach opportunities in our community or Ministry Partners. Deacons do not serve on the Session.
Please nominate people based on the qualities and qualifications listed below by completing and submitting the nomination form.
Qualities and Qualifications
In addition, as you consider who to nominate for these offices, look for people who represent Christ above all else. The Session and Deacon Board have the responsibility to work on behalf of the true owner of Christ Community—our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, we should see men and women in the offices of Ruling Elder and Deacon who are seeking to submit themselves completely to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our Ruling Elders and Deacons should be people whom you can look to and respect for their walk with the Lord. The following spiritual qualities should exemplify the life of a Ruling Elder or Deacon.
1. Relationship to God. One who is filled with the Holy Spirit, full of faith and grace, a person of prayer, powered through the Spirit of God, and who shows the ability to teach (Ruling Elders). One who is devout, yielding their will to the Father, mature in their faith, and whose household holds to God’s truth. (I Timothy 3:1-12; Titus 1:6-9; Acts 6:3)
2. Relationship to the Body. One who is hospitable, self-controlled, prudent, respectable, gentle in spirit, and demonstrates responsibility and faithfulness. One who is above reproach within the Body of Christ.
(I Timothy 3:1-12; Titus 1:6-9)
3. Relationship to the World. One who is just, law-abiding, honest, and carries a good reputation within the community. One who actively seeks to glorify Christ in all that is said and done, and whose life is a witness for Christ to all. One who is free from addiction to any substance, and who loves God above all else. One who is not controlled by the things of the world, who is faithful in marriage, and exercises control over their family. (I Timothy 3:1-12; Titus 1: 6-9)
